It converts the small resistance change from a strain gauge into a standardized signal that a data logger or PLC can read. The conditioner provides the excitation voltage, amplifies the tiny output, and often filters out electrical noise. Without it, the raw signal from the gauge is too weak and noisy to be useful for measurement.

4-20 mA current loop works better for long distances because it resists voltage drop. If your cable run is over 30 meters, current output is usually the safer choice. 0-10 V is fine for short connections inside a cabinet, but it can pick up noise if the environment has a lot of electrical interference. Kingmach conditioners often let you order either output type on the same model.

Most of our conditioners support 120, 350, and 1000 ohm gauges, which covers the common types used in structural and geotechnical monitoring. You need to match the bridge configuration—full, half, or quarter bridge—so the conditioner's internal completion resistors are correct. If your gauge has an unusual resistance or requires a non-standard excitation, we can usually adjust the unit during production.

We often add rugged connectors instead of screw terminals for outdoor use, pot the electronics in a waterproof case, or set a specific low-pass filter frequency to match your sampling rate.
